This Sunday is Mother's Day in the UK. It was first celebrated in 1908, when Anna Jarvis held a memorial for her mother in West Virginia. She then began a campaign to make "Mother's Day" a recognized holiday in the United States. Although she was successful in 1914, she was already disappointed with its commercialization by the 1920s and if Jarvis saw what has become of Mother's Day in 2014 she would be more than disappointed! Jarvis' holiday was adopted by other countrie and it is now celebrated all over the world.

Wow!!
Below are photos of the building which houses my friends flat they purchased earlier this year in Paisley, Scotland. This duplex apartment forms part of one of Paisley's major landmarks which is the John Neilson Institute built in 1890 for the sole purpose of being a school. The school itself was designed by Charles Wilson, a leading professional of his time. The property was re-designed for residential use and remains one of Paisley's most stunning buildings. It is proof that if you seek you will find!
